Mining Banners. Andrew McAnulty

The banner pictures below are by courtesy of Roy Lambeth.

Many thanks to Roy for supplying the pictures and the following information.

The story goes that Andrew McAnulty was involved with a bad explosion and disaster at Blantyre in Lanarkshire and went on to become, I understand, the first General Secretary of The Lanarkshire Mineworkers Union. In one photo is His grandson seeing the painting on the banner for the first time ever. The banner is held at The Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange. We laid the banner out on the floor since it is rather fragile and then photographed it as best we could.

A little bit of coal mining history.

I searched the web for information relating to Andrew McAnulty and was beginning to despair when I came across a single line entry on the Scottish Mining web site. It contained the name McAnulty and an email address. I sent off an email asking for information about Andrew McAnulty. The very next day I received an email from Roy Lambeth ( Roy sent me the photo's ) and he gave me the email address of the Grandson of Andrew McAnulty, to my amazement and delight it was the same email address as the person I had emailed.

I had a wonderful response from Andrew McAnulty Paterson. To read about His fantastic Grandfather just click here.
