Ian Scott

You are listening to Ian Scott's fantastic version of "The Price of Coal " which was written by Johnny Caesar who also wrote "Come Home Rhondda Boy " for Tom Jones. Johnny asked Ian to sing the song Tom Jones style to send as a demo to Tom to see if he would record it.

Ian has allowed me to use his demo version of The Price of Coal.

Johnny Handle.

CD cover. Johnny Handle, Burradon Pit in the background.

Johnny along with Louis Killen, founded the Folksong and Ballad Club in the Bridge Hotel, Newcastle, in 1958.
He is well known for his association with the legendary High Level Ranters, but Johnny's reputation as an entertainer was well established before the High Level Ranters were formed.

Johnny is a songwriter and musician, he plays the accordion, Northumbrian pipes and the piano. He draws his material from his experiences of everyday life. He has a wonderful talent, combining his songs with changes over the years. Sadness, joy, protest and humour are all included in his songs.

The songs I like best are the ones where humour is king. He certainly makes me laugh when I listen to his recordings, and they bring back such wonderful memories of good times, (not in a materialistic way), which will never return.

If you have never heard of Johnny Handle or listened to his songs, you have missed a wonderful experience.
