Mining Stickers 3.

Coalmining stickers are primarily issued by Coal Companies to promote different occasions within their mines.

Derek Adams says,

" What I like about some of the stickers is the history associated with them, some are made to celebrate mine openings, anniversaries, milestones, closures, special editions, mines rescue competitions and safety achievements so if you are a mining historian you could use the various information contained on the stickers to help with research".

Stickers were usually stuck on the hard safety helmets worn by the miners and this is still carried out today, however due to the amount of stickers being made miners started to collect them and for over a period of 20 years between the late 70's to the late 90's there has been over 20,000 Coalmining stickers made in both Australia and American . This was a master stroke by the coal companies as it brought the safety awareness to new levels never seen before in the industry and it soon turned into reality, miners actually began to have less frequent injuries because the were working safer.

In later years when the technology was introduced stickers were made with reflective backing which made it much easier to identify miners down in the pits and off course made them very appealing to the collector.

If you have any stickers please don't throw them away, either contact Derek Adams, or if you prefer contact me and I will pass any information on.
